PROJECT SAMPLES

As a dedicated team, it gives us great pride to be able to call these projects our own. Whatever the size or time commitment of each project, our flexibility and strong work ethic allows us to carefully plan ahead in order to meet deadlines while delivering high quality solutions that are built to last. Take a look at some sample projects below.

Projects: Projects

WOLF CREEK PARK TRAILS

October 2020
Design & Build

This design build project consisted of designing and constructing a 17 mile soft surface multi use trail system with an emphasized design/build for mountain bike users.

SC Resources worked closely with the land manager to create a design concept in which all users would enjoy. We created a destination in which mountain bike users will progress their skills throughout the 17 mile trail system.

NEEDLESEYE TRAIL

Design - Build

Needleseye Park
Oak Hill, WV – 2019
SC Resources designed and built a 1.5 mile natural surface multi use trail for the city of Oak Hill. This trail was designed as a main “artery” trail with several side trails for rock climber access that guide you to designated rock climbing areas.

TRAIL PLANNING & DESIGN
TRAIL MAINTENANCE & CONSTRUCTION

2016-2019

New River Gorge Trail Alliance (NRGTA)
Fayette County, Nicholas County, Raleigh County, WV – 2016 – 2019
SC Resources was contracted by the NRGTA to perform a variety of tasks for the organization. We assisted the NRGTA with creating a trail master plan and a trail maintenance plan. Our team worked closely with NRGTA to design a number of trails and trail systems. We also created a variety of maps for their planning process. We worked with and taught 100’s volunteers how to perform trail maintenance and the process of new trail construction.

ADVENTURES ON THE GORGE (AOTG) CAMPGROUND

Design and Build June 2018

Adventures on the Gorge
Lansing, WV 2018
Our team designed and built this project from the begging to end. We worked closely with AOTG in order to make a conceptual idea come to life. We wanted to make sure the design and build of this campground had minimal impact on the land. We used the topography to our advantage and created a great layout in a fairly small footprint and gave the clients exactly what they wanted. ( One way loop rd, 12 camping sites each with two 10’x10’ tent pads accommodated with picnic tables and fire pit rings)

LONG POINT TRAIL

Summer/Fall 2017

This project is full of highlights. Longpoint trail is one of if not the most popular trail in the New River Gorge. With that comes a lot of issues if the trail is not built properly. This trail was previously laid out and built on an old skid road. It was a drainage nightmare. Our team came in and gave this iconic trail a whole new make over. We were even able to make a portion of the trail ABA accessible. (Equipped with a ABA parking lot, a 1,300' ABA accessible causeway that brings you to a beautiful constructed birding deck. Re-routes were laid out and cut in order to get off the fall line and to let water escape the trail. In areas where reroutes were not allowed we created a raised tread surface in order to keep visitors of the the mud and on the designated trail.)

ENDLESS WALL TRAIL

Lansing, WV 2017

Working with a local nonprofit organization is always a treat for SC Resources, especially when it’s the New River Alliance of Climbers (NRAC). This project was special for us because we got to work with such a great local organization NRAC. The Endless Wall trail is a local attraction that draws in local and tourists alike. This trail also aides in the access to some of the best climbing in the New River Gorge. This 3.5 project consisted of a lot of trail maintenance, construction of several raised tread areas, erosion control, stair construction and creek crossings. Shortly after this project the Endless Wall Trail won the #1 National Park trail in the country, “voted by USA Today”.

7/11 WALL - CLIMBER ACCESS TRAIL

Fayetteville, WV 2016
Design - Build

SC Resources got to work with local nonprofit organization NRAC yet again. This short trail segment was in dire need of some love. This existing “trail” was never actually built, but over the years of use a path was created that was very unstable and hard to navigate. This trail is packed with great rock work something we at SC Resources take a lot of pride in. Our team worked with NRAC to create a user friendly sustainable path that would guide rock climbers to the crag safely and efficiently.

NORTH BRIDGE WALL - CLIMBER ACCESS TRAIL

Fayetteville, WV 2016
Design - Build
Rigging Operations

SC Resources always enjoys hard complex projects and this one was a test of what our team can provide for you. This project was all about intricate rock work and complex rigging operations. Our team was tasked to build a 3 mile sustainable tread surface on a wet slimy rock slab while teaching a local nonprofit organization NRAC how to properly and safely use rigging equipment. We definitely had our work cut out for us. The terrain was extremely challenging and the location of the trail was not ideal but we were able to think outside the box and created a unique rock tread surface. We safely taught volunteers how to properly use the rigging equipment and were able to move and place rocks weighing close to 2,300 lbs.
